Last Day Hooray!

Last day of school and I have to be honest in 15 years I have never been sad for this day to come until today Thank you for the pleasure of your enthusiastic, hard working, and KIND children this year. I wish I could stay with this group forever! They will leave a mark on my heart❤️ Happy Summer!!

 

  

  

If you can't beat 'em....

You know how the old saying goes, if you can't beat them, join them!!! 

Today we practiced our math facts using....FIDGET SPINNERS!

The game was to spin you spinner on your table and see how many math facts you could do before it stopped, then tally the amount of spins you would have to do in order to finish the whole sheet! This was great facts practice for them and something easy you can do at home too! They really need automaticity on their facts so that next year when they begin multiplication they are not struggling with it. Here are a few pictures, and though you can't tell they were all spinning when I was taking pictures, we will keep practicing so look for the sheets to come home and you can even erase the answers and use them over again 😉 or I have extra at school if you want some sent home please let me know! 

 

    

Tie-Dye Party!!

Thanks to the help of our Art Teacher Mrs. Greenway who helped me muddle through my very first tie dye day!! So proud of these guys for their hard work and it has been paying off! Glad I got to celebrate with them.

Snack and a Story

Today we got to have snack time outside and I got to read to them which was perfect

 

 We had popcicicles from Nicholas and finished another class read aloud chapter book: Sideways Stories from Wayside School by Louis Sachar. He has a a whole series that follows this school plus a lot of other stories like the book: Holes (one of my favorites) 

 

Geometry

This week we began our geometry unit. It can be pretty tricky for 2nd graders because of the new vocabulary. 

I brought my son's Magformers in the classroom this week to use for centers and they were a hit! 

 

They are magnetic blocks that begin as flat shapes but can be connected to become 3-D shapes. These were so much fun but also great for them to have a hands-on way to understand geometry. 

 

    

 

 

Cursive

We finished our lowercase letters! Before we begin capital letters I thought we needed a bit more practice with Shaving Cream!!! What a fun surprise. 

 

  

Weaving

This week we are reading the Narrative NonFiction story: The Goat In The Rug. It's the story of how a Navajo woman used her goat's wool to weave a rug. The fun part is that it is told from the point of view of the Goat. The kids really enjoyed the story and we took a few minutes to learn how to weave our own "rugs." It was a great first day back!
